Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard, a family owned and operated business, is located in North Salem, New York. Our Apple Picking Festival takes place every weekend in the Fall with live music, a pumpkin patch, great food and plenty of activities to keep your whole family busy all day! The country store offers fresh baked pies, fresh pressed apple cider, local produce, gifts and more. Visit the farm in December to select your perfect Christmas tree. Don’t forget to grab a cup of hot cider and a cider doughnut from the store.

In a society where it has become the norm to buy “fresh” produce originating from a different continent, or “nutritious” eggs produced by feeble, caged chickens, Harvest Moon is emerging as a new market to pick up REAL fresh and REAL local produce, eggs and meat. Harvest Moon wants you to get to know your local farmer so you understand EXACTLY what you are putting into your body. The 64-acre farm grows produce from June to October; raise their own hormone and antibiotic-free, vegetable-fed turkeys for Thanksgiving; and has year round farm fresh eggs and grass fed beef from their very own animals. We are proud to practice organic and, more importantly, NATURAL farming methods. We carry local varieties produce, honey, dairy, maple syrup and more. We are a fresh, high-quality farm market serving the community 7 days a week from 8am to 6pm.

Blue Hill at Stone Barns, serving Farm-to-Table cuisine, is located at 630 Bedford Road in Pocantico Hills, NY 10591 in Westchester County. From the owner: "In spring of 2004, Blue Hill at Stone Barns opened within the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in Pocantico Hills, New York. The Barbers helped create the philosophical and practical framework for Stone Barns Center, a working four-season farm and educational center just 30 miles north of New York City, and continue to help guide it in its mission to create a consciousness about the effect of everyday food choices.

"Sourcing from the surrounding fields and pasture, as well as other local farms, Blue Hill at Stone Barns highlights the abundant resources of the Hudson Valley. There are no menus at Blue Hill at Stone Barns. Instead, guests are presented with a list of over a hundred ingredients, updated daily, which contains the best offerings from the field and market."

Blue Hill is "very expensive, but . . . the food was not only delicious, fresh and nutritious, it was a work of art." Most agree that although pricey "be prepared to be amazed" as even the service was impeccable". A few do not agree as they exclaim "a lot of pomp, a little protein (small portions) and an extraordinary bill".

The Farm at Miller's Crossing is a diversified Demeter-certified biodynamic farm offering Certified Organic produce and CSA shares. Miller's Crossing is located at 81 Roxbury Road, Hudson, NY 12513, Columbia County in the upper-Hudson Valley.

The farm has 30 acres of vegetables within a 60-acre rotation, as well as 75 acres of pasture for our cows. The greenhouse provides room to grow the farm's transplants and bedding plants for sale. Produce is marketed through CSA, local farmers' markets, and wholesale accounts.

CSA members join in the winter and pick up their share of vegetables weekly during the season. Through this type of purchasing consumers and farmers share the risk of a difficult season as well as the bounty of a good year. Because of their diversity, CSA farms rarely have "bad years". In a rainy season, the greens are happy; a hot and dry year grows great tomatoes. The Farm at Miller's Crossing offers regular family sized shares as well as single shares for smaller households.

What is Demeter® USA?
Demeter® USA is a certifier of Biodynamic® farms and products. Biodynamic agriculture goes beyond organic, envisioning the farm as a self-contained and self-sustaining organism. In an effort to keep the farm, the farmer, the consumer, and the earth healthy, farmers avoid chemical pesticides and fertilizers, utilize compost and cover crops, and set aside a minimum of 10% of their total acreage for biodiversity. The entire farm, versus a particular crop, must be certified, and farms are inspected annually. In order for a product to bear the Demeter logo it must be made with certified Biodynamic® ingredients and meet strict processing standards to ensure the purest possible product.

    585-924-2171
New York State apple growers have been perfecting their apples for over 300 years. Enjoy them all year long. From the classic McIntosh to the snappy Empire, New York has what you want in an apple. Taste the difference, savor the quality, share the pride.

It's no coincidence that apples are the symbol of good health. In the Middle Ages, the English said "To eat an apple before going to bed will make the doctor beg his bread." We now know that there's a sound basis for the familiar "apple a day" rhyme. Take a look at the nutritional benefits of a medium size Apple Country® apple.

Nutritional Facts: Apples are absolutely fat-free. One apple provides as much dietary fiber as a bowl of bran cereal. Apples are loaded with pectin, a soluble fiber that aids digestion and may help reduce cancer and heart disease. The complex carbohydrates in apples give your body a longer, more even energy boost compared to high-sugar snacks. Snacking on apples can keep you going throughout the day. Apples provide boron, an essential trace element that helps harden bones and help prevent osteoporosis.

Hesperides Organica Farm, a CSA farm, is located at 5 Owl Lane, Warwick, NY 10990 in the “Black Dirt” region of Orange County, NY. While other farmland may contain 5 percent organic matter, the black dirt or “muck soil” contains 50-90 percent organic matter. We sell our produce through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA).

Hesperides Organica offers a full-season, weekly subscription for local, freshly-picked, sustainably-grown vegetables, herbs and flowers.

      Why Buy Local

    • Local food tastes better; it hasn’t traveled thousands of miles and then sat in a warehouse.

    • Local food preserves diversity and the selection of produce that is healthy and tastes good; not because it has a long shelf life or can be machine harvested.

    • Why buy produce from China or Chile when we can support our own local farmers?

Four Winds Farm is located at 158 Marabac Road, Gardiner NY 12525, Southern Ulster County in the Hudson Valley. Four Winds Farm is a 24 acre certified organic family farm. Four acres are used to grow vegetables, primarily heirloom and open pollinated varieties for better flavor and for seed saving. The remainder is used to raise lamb, beef and egg laying chickens, which supply us generously with natural fertilizer. Our farm-generated manure compost allows us to grow vegetables using a method that is very different from conventional farms.

    Organic Farming
Our garden space is never plowed or rototilled. We grow our vegetables in permanently formed beds, some of which have been in place for 10 years. We then spread compost on top of the beds, and plant seeds and transplants directly into the compost. The plant roots and compost nutrients move down into the soil where there is a healthy, thriving community of soil organisms. We find that this technique reduces overall weed pressure and gives us better-tasting vegetables that keep longer in the refrigerator.

Press blue button for photos and more about organic farming. Bring the kids for a visit to Four Winds organic farm where scenic views are combined with a diversity of life.

Kids learn how maintaining a farm this size is a year-round job. Winter months mean covering the strawberries beds, pruning the trees and packing the crop just picked. The spring brings planting, fence building and repair, continued apple packing and strawberries in June. July and August are planting, repairs, summer pruning and by early August-peach picking. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
This is our version of what is commonly called Community Supported Agriculture. The people agree to purchase a share of the anticipated crop. The farmer agrees to supply the people with a fresh assortment of high quality, in our case, certified organic produce. The shareholders commitment implies a willingness to share with the farmer the bounty from the land, and some of the risks of its production.
