The Performing Arts Center The Performing Arts Center, a five-theatre complex at Purchase College, is the major professional, non-profit arts presenter in the Southeastern New York, Southwestern Connecticut region. When Brae Burn Country Club was formed in 1964, it was the first new member-owned club formed in Westchester since the late 1920’s.
At Brae Burn Country Club, the parkland layout is routed through hilly terrain with natural brooks and ponds in play on a number of holes. An old, elevated railroad bed crosses the course, adding an unusual manmade dimension as well. The undulating greens are among the most contoured and challenging in the Metropolitan area. A course renovation completed in 2000 has enhanced the course’s beauty. Architect Ken Dye’s plan reconfigured bunkers, added visibility and restored much of Frank Duane’s original design.
In 2002, the Gannett Journal News rated the fifteenth hole at Brae Burn Country Club among the Best 18 in the area, finishing in 12th place. This dramatic, beautiful, downhill par five features lateral water hazards on both the left and right of the two-level fairway, two ponds, a prominent fairway bunker and out-of bounds all along the left side of the hole.
Old Oaks Country Club is located at 3100 Purchase Street, Purchase, NY 10577. The Club is set on 220-acres in lower Westchester County, located 25 miles north of New York City. The facilities include an 18-hole Tillinghast designed golf course.
The 80,000 square foot clubhouse, built in 1898 and renovated as recently as 2001, includes a ballroom, member grill room, pool area, dining room, two outdoor terraces, outdoor fountain garden, and an arbor garden. The Country Club of Purchase opened in September 1996 and is the first and only 18-hole championship golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus in the area. A skillful combination of world-class design and sound environmental planning, the course is likely to be acclaimed for its beauty and its sensitive conservation.
The course plays 6,876 yards and is masterfully crafted on 192 acres, with protected wetlands. Preserving the ecologically rich land was a priority from the earliest planning sessions. "When I was asked to design the Country Club of Purchase, I considered it a rare opportunity and experience for me to be able to design a course in an area so rich in long established, historic and famous clubs. Having the chance to create something truly special and realizing it would probably be one of the last courses designed in the area, I was both excited and challenged. The owners provided me with a magnificent piece of virtually untouched land. The design incorporates the rolling terrain, a variety of wetlands, and holes framed by trees which act as a canopy.
