The Church of the Ascension has been a Mount Vernon landmark since its incorporation on May 26, 1890. Before the Church moved to its current location, services were conducted in a building, which was the old Swedenborgian Chapel, on the corner of Prospect and Fulton Avenues. This was only a few blocks away from where the cornerstone of the permanent building would eventually be laid.
